Educational Assessment

This type of assessment is suitable for children and young people from ages 5 to 16 when parents, teachers or the young person wishes to have a breakdown of their educational strengths and weaknesses.  Ideas for strategies and interventions that will suit the student, to help them develop their learning skills further will be given in the report. These assessments are ideal for younger students, or when a diagnosis is not required.

Any assessment will always start with a non-obligatory telephone consultation to decide on the best route for you and your child.  Background information is then collected from home and school to inform the assessment.

The assessment will depend on the needs of the child and the requirements of the school or parents.

An initial literacy assessment would involve short, standardised tests of literacy attainment.  This assessment would last for around 1.5 hours.  It does not give an indication or diagnosis of dyslexia but would identify gaps in learning, which is useful for intervention planning and gives some brief recommendations for support.

An educational assessment involves standardised tests of literacy attainment and cognitive processes, is less extensive than a full diagnostic assessment and does not give a diagnosis of dyslexia.  The aim of this assessment is to give an assessment of strengths and weaknesses and recommendations and strategies for support. It is useful for younger children, or where a diagnosis is not required.

An initial literacy assessment will include a short report (about 5 pages) detailing the results of the assessment and some recommendations for support.

An educational assessment will include a summary report (about 12 pages) with a short analysis of the test results and recommendations for support at home and school.
